Up on the Roof

Yes, it's a song title. I don't believe it was an original by The Nylons (an awesome vocal quartet from the 80's), but it is my favorite version of the song. I was mowing my lawn today listening to all the Nylon's songs on my MP3 player and many lines from many songs brought back many memories and emotions. This song, just happens to be the one that has been referenced on FB recently, so I thought I'd talk about it. Thank you, Jeff.

The lyrics talk about a place you can go when you have a bad day, to get away from the "rat-race noise, down in the streets." Wow, does a place like this exist? Of course, but you have to find it. Back in HS, my close friends and I did not party. We hung out and had fun like most (bowling, mini-golf, driving around singing at the top of our lungs, etc), but some of my best memories were shared on top of a car just looking at the stars and dreaming out loud. This was our "top of the roof." Now, I can go out in my back yard and lay on our trampoline and see a sky full of "Colorado" stars. We live far enough away from the city lights that it is actually quite dark and peaceful (if the neighbors have their back lights off). When I get a chance to watch the stars, I usually just get lost in the beauty of what God has created, and don't think about much at all.

This is my escape. Where is yours? I encourage you to seek it out and share it with those who are close to you. Don't keep it to yourself, sharing a quite time with someone can be more powerful than being alone.

I need to do this myself, more.

Until next time,
Roy

What is a "Royvalation?"

Basically, I would say that it is how God talks to me. Whether I hear a song and one line speaks to me on a specific subject or my kids say something that takes my breath away, God can reveal or confirm a message to me. Mostly, it gets me thinking about inner thoughts and feelings.

I want you to know that I do not profess to be a writer or philosopher or even that well versed in my own Christian beliefs, so I will definitely have spelling errors and misinterpretations on Theology. I do try to learn things from both good and bad situations or events. I thought this would be a good place to journal my own revelations.

Welcome to my inner world.
